I meant to keep up with it this fall, but due to various technical difficulties and a little laziness…I didn’t. So I’ll be posting some Tiny Desk Concert photos from NPR. These are the ones that have been published and all can be viewed on NPR!

This is the lovely Lisa Hannigan. She is absolutely effervescent. Hannigan sang with Damien Rice on songs like Volcano and recently started doing her own thing. She is so cheerful and warm. Check out her music videos for Knots and Little Bird. Watch the Tiny Desk below or on the website.

Autism and Sexuality

This past semester at NPR I worked on a story with fellow intern Deanna Pan about a couple both living (together) with Autism. Lindsey and Dave both have Autism and have been together for 6 years. Working with them was absolutely amazing, I learned so much about their respective braveries overcoming insecurities and accomodating one another.

They spend some time together, most of the time apart, merely coexisting in their house. They sleep in separate bedrooms, eat at different times and have different interests and hobbies. But I can tell from their comfort and interactions with each other that they’re in it for the long haul and will go to any length to make the other feel comfortable.

Lindsey and Dave are a voice for Autism. They speak at conferences around the country about Autism and sexuality and are living proof that people with Autism can have amazing relationships if only they listen to one another…the same thing rings true for any relationship.

I will post the multimedia piece soon. You can read Lindsey’s review of the experience here. It’s always interesting to know what someone really felt with a camera shoved into their personal lives.

I have been working all semester on this project. Producing it was insane, shooting it was awesome, but it was well-worth the experience.

At long last…Milo Greene

It’s been a huge while since I updated, but here are some photos from The Civil Wars and Milo Greene show I attended some time ago.

It was a great show, which followed a great day. For NPR Intern Edition, an entirely intern-produced section of NPR, we are working on a “Deskless Concert” series, and Milo Greene was our first band! You can watch the concert, on NPR’s roof, here.Our next one will be posted in a few weeks with The Loom and Cat Martino.

Please check out their music as well, they are a phenomenal band who has only been around for a short time, I predict gigantic strides are in their future.

It’s been a while. Like three months. I would like to blame my lack of post on the technological malfunction and subsequent demise of my beloved MacBook Pro, which endured a slow and painful death earlier this summer.

Nevertheless, I’ve found a way to edit some stuff and I plan to post past and future stuff more frequently.

So I am at NPR interning in the Multimedia department. I am lucky enough to see some great music in this very building in a more preferable and intimate setting. Wilco recently graced us with the presence, so I have produced this photo for your envy and viewing pleasure. Listen to their new album, The Whole Love, here.

Sarah and Brandon get hitched!

Some friends of mine from college tied the knot on May 21 and I was privileged enough to be the wedding photographer. I took my friend Eve with me as an assistant and needless to say it was a great first experience for both of us.

Sarah and Brandon, both extremely kind and well-rounded folks, decided to use their wedding as an opportunity to reinforce the social justice attitudes and beliefs they have practiced for years. Sarah and her bridesmaids wore Sseko sandals, a type of sandal made in Uganda by Ugandan women. A portion of the money from the sandals goes back to the Ugandan women and is used to pay for their education. Brandon and the groomsmen wore TOMS. TOMS is a for-profit shoe company created a few years back that’s designed so when you buy one pair of shoes, you’re also buying a pair for a child in need in Africa or Latin America, One for One.

I loved that Sarah and Brandon took this approach and used their wedding as an opportunity to speak up for microeconomic programs and philanthropic initiatives.
